Updated November 20, 2011...
Several
of the newer cabs are water-jet cut by
an associate of mine. They are for the most part
multi-layered, mosaic type pieces, and are somewhat thicker because
of the multitude of layers. Because of this, expect to see
some air holes around the perimeter of the cab -- which is how
trapped air escapes while fusing.
My
specialty is layered and shaped fused glass dichroic art cabs:
gemstone-like cabochons with
sparkling depth, incorporating many layers of color and interplay of
patterns. I build up the layers of glass over 2-3 firings
in the kiln. Then I use a glass saw or glass grinder to
develop the best
shapes, grinding the edges to polish and bevel each cab for maximum
brilliance. A final fire-polishing in the kiln brings out the
beauty of each handcrafted art cabochon. I also make other
cabs: free-forms, nuggets, channel pendants (slides),
and lava cabs. Prices vary, depending upon the style, finish, and grade of the cab.
These are
one-of-a-kind, so multiples of the same item are not possible. You can also find
pendant cabs (with a bail already attached) on my
pendants pages. The
slide pendants will also be found on the
dichroic pendants page, since all they need is your cord, chain, or
stringing to make them ready-to-wear!
You've probably
already heard how difficult it is to properly photograph dichroic
cabs, and it's the same here: if you receive your cabs and
they're not what you expected based on the photos, they can be
returned or exchanged. This is my worry-free pact with you.
Most people tell me the cabs look BETTER in person than the photos!
But you be the judge of that. Have fun! ...Cindy
